Inspired by the diverse and multicultural community of Bonnyrigg, SGCH and partner organisations worked together to hold an event to showcase and celebrate people and cultures from around the world.
The event opened with a didgeridoo performance, followed by a routine from Bonnyrigg Public School’s Aboriginal Dance Group who were delighted to perform for their community, resulting in smiles all around.
The afternoon of cultural performances continued with Lebanese drumming, Belly Dancing, the Chinese dragon and percussion group and Cook Island entertainment who encouraged everyone to join in and learn some of their traditional dancing.
Having worked up an appetite, guests could choose from a huge range of food trucks including freshly served dumplings from Mrs Wang’s Dumpling stand, hot gozleme by Turkish Gozleme House, Latin American food from Raza Central’s food truck or a sausage sizzle cooked by BYC, followed by a free ice-cream from Bells Ice cream truck.
In between delicious food and impressive performances, attendees visited the free activities to enjoy having their face painted, hair braided, getting a henna tattoo; getting creative at the craft station or having a ball in the jumping castle.
One attendee raved about the event and the food. “I’ve had an awesome time, I got a henna tattoo and loved getting up on stage to dance! And the food was all amazing, I stuffed myself and took extras home.”
Thank you to everyone who came, and to the partner organisations whose support made the event possible: Bonnyrigg High school, Bonnyrigg Public School, NSW SLASA, Daystar Foundation and Fairfield City Open Libraries.
