Strive Scholarships are a “vote of confidence” in future generations
Gerry was a Strive Scholar from year nine, and today is studying a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws degree, while pursuing a career in the public service. After facing eviction from his home in year 7, Gerry and his mother successfully secured a SGCH home in Hurstville. “Without that lifeline, I honestly don’t know where we would have ended up,” he says.
Strive Scholarships provide essential financial support for young people and adults in pursuit of their educational goals. Since 2006, SGCH has proudly invested over $3.2 million in this program, supporting 2,795 students from kindergarten to Year 12, as well as tertiary students.
In his keynote speech at this year’s Strive Scholarship event, Gerry emboldened this year’s young scholars to never give up.
“No matter how many times you may get knocked down, it is important to always stick to your dreams. Remember, this scholarship is more than just financial support—it’s a vote of confidence in your potential to make a difference.
“Little did I know just how much this scholarship would open my world and help me to achieve those goals,” he said.
Scholarships of up to $1,500 are now open to people studying at uni, colleague or TAFE.
Applications close on midnight 31 March 2025.
