In June 2022, Joe Achmar commenced as SGCH’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Of joining SGCH, Joe says: “The main reason I joined was to be part of an organisation that makes a huge difference for marginalised groups in the community. ”
“The icing on the cake is when I got here, the people I’ve met are all passionate and very engaging.”
A Chartered Accountant, Joe brings almost 30 years experience of commercial finance experience to SGCH. Most recently Joe was CFO at Venues NSW, a state government body managing community assets including large stadiums such as the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). After starting his career at Ernst and Young, Joe worked at AMP Capital in the property division, looking after commercial, retail and industrial property classes. As CFO of Campus Living Villages, Joe then developed his understanding of social infrastructure, with the business providing accommodation to 25,000 students living in properties in four countries.
Speaking about the parallels with SGCH, Joe says: “It was about placemaking and taking care of tenant needs, it wasn’t just about collecting the rent.”
So what does Joe see as future priorities for SGCH?
“Two major things – growth in our portfolio, there is a big demand for social and community housing and continuing with our digital transformation”
“I think those two things go hand in hand. If we’re able to get the best of breed systems and processes to be as efficient as we can be we’ll have more time to take care of customers.”
“I think we’re in a good position for further growth.”
Outside of work, Joe is an avid supporter of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the NRL and loves watching his kids play sport.
“Sport is a big part of my family. I also do volunteer work for a creative organisation, which keeps me busy after hours.”
