Newleaf Bonnyrigg Development Update December 2022

15 December 2022

New community rooms set to open

Great news! The newly built community rooms in Bonnyrigg are expected to open in February 2023. They are located next to our office on Wall Place. An official opening ceremony is planned for early next year, so stay tuned for more details. Once the centre is complete it will provide spaces for community organisations and residents to get together for programs and celebrations. The centre will be handed to Fairfield City Council, which will initially manage the venue until an organisation is contracted to look after it.

Fantastic feedback

We recently received some positive feedback from a customer who moved this year. She was grateful to shift to a home with a yard, which means it’s safe for her autistic child to play outside. She’s also closer to the shops and her church.
While we know that this was a great experience for the customer, we would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that moving is a huge task, and sometimes can be daunting.
We’d like to thank the families who have moved so far and remind you that if you need any further support or assistance, you can reach out to us. We are looking forward to working with and supporting you in the process of calling a new place home.

Humphries Precinct: an update

The focus in the Humphries Precinct will be on building social homes for larger families. The precinct will include 29 houses (three- and four-bedroom), 25 apartments and six townhouses, along with a new park and roads that will improve connections with already completed homes.

Area 1 (orange)

Relocations and demolitions in this area have now been completed. The NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) is engaging a civil works contractor to construct roads and other vital infrastructure and work will be ongoing through 2023. This area will include 10 social houses and 25 apartments. Construction of these social homes is expected to start early in 2024. Newleaf Parade will remain open throughout this period.

Area 2 (yellow)

SGCH will continue to work with social housing tenants from Area 2 to relocate them so that roads and parks can be constructed. This construction will continue in both Areas 1 and 2 through 2023. Work in these areas may have some impact on traffic using Humphries Road and LAHC will ensure that contractors do everything they can to minimise disruption.

What’s next for Bonnyrigg?

The NSW Government’s Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) is continuing to work through the planning process for the next stages, 12 and 13 (see the map on the previous page – town centre hub, the section closest to Bonnyrigg Ave and Bonnyrigg Plaza). It’s anticipated that relocations in Goodman Way and Derry Way will start next year.
These areas will have new one- and two-bedroom apartments built for both social housing customers and private sale. The apartments will be next to shops, bus services and a new town-centre plaza.

Did you know…

🌱 138 households have settled into another home within (or close to) the Bonnyrigg area.

🌱 In the past two years, LAHC has developed and handed over 44 new homes and units on the estate, which have all been filled.

🌱 Homes on the Bonnyrigg estate are currently being built for private residents and sale. LAHC anticipates that there will be more social housing delivered in 2024.
