SGCH’s 11 Gibbons Street Redfern development has been awarded Affordable Residential Development in the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards 2021.

For the third year running, leading community housing provider SGCH has been recognised for its quality developments that are delivering social and affordable housing in Sydney.

Group CEO Scott Langford said “We’re delighted that our Gibbons Street building has been awarded Affordable Residential Development by experts. It recognises this as an outstanding development that is delivering social outcomes for the community of Redfern.

“Together with our partners, we’re really proud of this stunning addition that showcases quality affordable housing in the City of Sydney. We thank the Urban Taskforce for this recognition.”

11 Gibbons Street Redfern is our flagship development which has transformed a former City of Sydney depot to deliver an outstanding urban renewal project in the heart of Redfern. Completed in June 2021, the 162-unit, 18-storey building provides 40 social and 120 affordable housing units across a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units.

Recognising the cultural significance of this site, public art by Joe Hurst is integrated throughout the building and more than 40% of households identify as Aboriginal.

The development includes a ground floor commercial space, community recreation spaces, a new SGCH office and playground. The building meets an average 8-star rating under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

Project partners include Lendlease, DKO, City of Sydney and NSW Government. The project is financed with the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation.
