Celebrating our Petersham Project

Natasha Maclaren-Jones, CEO Scott Langford and Jenny Leong MP with three SGCH customers cut the ribbon at Palace St PetershamNatasha Maclaren-Jones, the NSW Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services, cut the ribbon at our Palace Street, Petersham, project yesterday – officially declaring it open.

She was joined at the celebration by Jenny Leong, Member for Newtown, Michael August and Sean Roddy from the Department of Communities and Justice, and the chair of our board, Karen Orvad. Emma Jeffrey and Dani Khamo from builders SR Construction were also in attendance – but the most important guests of all were our Petersham customers.

To help bring this building into our stable, we were successful in securing funding from the Department of Communities and Justice as part of the Together Home Transition Program. The funding, matched by a co-contribution from SGCH, enabled us to purchase and refurbish the 10-unit block. The Together Home program centres on providing people with a trajectory away from homelessness and into long-term, stable housing – enabling them to improve their overall wellbeing.

Now, the building is fully tenanted and allocated to people from the following groups: three Together Home participants; two Priority Housing applications (including transfer application); three Internal Priority Transfer applications; one Port Jackson Support Housing Program Exit; and one Aboriginal Household allocation (under SGCH’s Community Housing for Aboriginal People commitment).

“SGCH is thrilled to provide 10 social housing homes that are well located in the Inner West, with great amenity to the best opportunities the city has to offer our customers,” CEO Scott Langford said. “Working in partnership with the NSW Government and SR Construction, these units have been transformed, delivering sustainable, safe and affordable homes.”

The Together Home Transition Program provides capital grants to community housing providers to build or buy new social housing, creating long-term homes for vulnerable clients. The program is currently funding 18 projects valued at nearly $143 million, and will deliver more than 200 new social housing dwellings.
