In January, Bonnyrigg Youth Collective (BYC) members attended at a two-day leadership camp at Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation Centre in Narrabeen. This was made possible by a grant SGCH secured through the Club Grants program.
The camp aimed to develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills while strengthening bonds among new and existing BYC members. Fourteen youths participated in various activities and engaged in valuable planning discussions.
“These were insightful conversations that allowed everyone to share their opinions and acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses within BYC,” says Taylor Green, SGCH’s Community Engagement Coordinator for South West Sydney.
Daytime activities included kayaking, raft building, stand-up paddle boarding, archery tag, and problem-solving challenges. The group also shared a special sunrise viewing on the second day, creating a memorable bonding experience.
Participants reported extremely positive outcomes. One member shared, “Because of camp I feel closer to the BYC members, particularly the new members,” while another noted, “I feel I have built more confidence in my leadership abilities and I now have extra appreciation of my fellow BYC members.”
