The Canvas redevelopment includes 65 social homes that will be managed by SGCH. Joe Achmar, SGCH’s Acting Group CEO, said: “This is a really special area in NSW, a very vibrant community. In 2007 this was the first social housing private-public partnership in Australia and we’re proud to have been involved from the start.
“Our purpose is to create safe and sustainable homes that are affordable to allow people to have access to opportunities, to build on their lives and connect to community. It’s only through these strong partnerships with the public sector and private sector that we as a nation can begin to address the housing challenges we face.”
Early works for Stage 1 of Canvas have now been completed. Traders In Purple has awarded the civil contract for Stage 1 subdivision works to JK Williams. Work is also underway by Telstra and the NBN, with relocation of communication lines taking place to allow subdivision works to progress.
Stage 1 subdivision works will progress in sections, to ensure the street network functions for existing residents. Traders In Purple will work with council in undertaking these works and arranging for temporary road closures. It’s anticipated Stage 1 works will be complete by the end of 2025.
Construction of the first five social dwellings for Homes NSW are progressing well, with two of the homes running ahead of schedule and completed in 2024. The remaining three houses within this stage are still on target for completion in the first quarter of 2025.
Stage 2 civil works are currently out to tender. Traders In Purple anticipates Stage 2 works will commence in the first quarter of 2025 – they will include the planned Junior Play Park.
New-release land lots are now available to purchase in Stage 2. They are being offered to potential buyers on a ‘buy now, settle in 2026’ basis – giving people time to save. This will be one of the last land releases available at Canvas. The ideally located and shaped lots are 300-600m2. For more information, contact sales@liveatcanvas.com.au
